What should I do if I think I may have sleep apnea?
The most valid way to get a confirmed diagnosis of sleep apnea is through a sleep study done at a sleep laboratory.
Some of the laboratories are even in rented rooms in actual hotels.
During the sleep study, an electroencephalography (EEG) is used to conduct sleep apnea laboratory tests. An EEG consists of processes such as an electro-oculography (where electrodes are placed in areas such as the eye region to measure REM movements), oxymetry (the placement of electrodes on the earlobe in order to measure the oxygen level in the blood).
Also, airflow measurement using a device places in front of the nostrils, as well as motion and breathing patterns during sleep using electrodes placed on the individual’s chest.
All of these tests will give doctors the information they require in order to diagnose if sleep apnea occurs and, if so, then what type of sleep apnea that is being experienced.
