The Causes of Fibromyalgia
While the actual underlying causes of fibromyalgia (FM) cannot currently be known, research has shown several correlations to being triggered by possible inducers of the condition such as traumatic illnesses and/or injuries that the fibromyalgia sufferer had endured. This is believed to be the case with the majority of individuals with FM.
Other research has shown that genetics, as well as physiological abnormalities, may have an impact on the susceptibility of a person to develop symptoms of fibromyalgia.
While the onset of fibromyalgia may seem quick for some, it may also develop more slowly as time passes. These symptoms are believed to be connected to that of neurons (pain receptors), neurotransmitters which signal pain and abnormal sensory processing in the central nervous system causing more intense pain perceptions for the individual.
Other causes can include lack of sleep and/or sleep disorders and changes in muscle metabolism or hormonal balances, and physical or mental stress and anxiety.
The studies being done are still rather new and more information is being gathered as research continues in the field of fibromyalgia.
